SMART Transit provides public transportation in southeastern Minnesota across four different counties - Freeborn, Mower, Steele, and Waseca. SMART was formed in January, 2014, when Freeborn, Mower, and Steele county transit systems consolidated (in 2016 Waseca county was added to the agency). We are owned and operated by Cedar Valley Services, Inc., a local company that provides rehabilitation services to adults with disabilities throughout the three-county area (same counties SMART started with). SMART has a staff of 70, including drivers, dispatchers, and managers, and has a fleet of nearly 35 buses.
